Frequently Asked Questions
Are Submissions open?
No. We will reopen for submissions later this year.
Who do you accept submissions from?
Anyone! But we would especially love to see submissions from people of color, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ people, and women. We also prefer to showcase writers who do not make their living through their writing.
How long can I expect to wait to hear back about my submission?
We are a very small team and just like you we are busy juggling a million different things in our lives. Please be patient and send us an inquiry about you submission if you haven't heard from us in 6 months. Often you will hear back much quicker. You will always hear back about your submission before the issue you submitted to is released. In the off chance you don't please email.
Will I get paid for my published piece?
Unfortunately we can't compensate at this time.
How do you feel about simultaneous submissions?
We love them! Cast your net wide! Please email us if any part of your submission is accepted elsewhere.
How often can I submit?
Please submit only once per issue. If your work is accepted for an issue please wait a year before submitting again.
Does copyright revert to the author after publication?
Yes. As soon as your work is published it is yours to do as you wish. We ask that if your work appears later in a longer work or anthology that you list Day Job Journal as a first publication. We will never republish your work in any future anthologies without your permission. We will quote your work on social media to promote it.
