Always retired, Caregiver for wife

recovering from cancer, poet

comes first if I wake up early enough

order varies through the day depends

on how she feels & somedays “driver”

is on the list, for appointments, not

to overlook

“Laundry Man” and “Chief Cook.”

Somewhere in most days there is time

to read a poem, to start a poem like this.

Those days are my days.

James Higgins was born in Texas, lived there and in California at times, but has been in Oregon for over 40 years now. He has written mostly poetry most of his life. James had some wins and "places" in the Oregon Poetry Association a few years ago.
