M. Klein

Nine Years (In September)

Chess on the rusty green table in the wind — curly willow shadows dancing

Fresh pillowcases and sated stomachs

Grocery store flowers in my thrifted vases

Reminders to write

Smuggled cookies from the preschool

Noticing the big dipper that clear night, after ghost town

Holding your hand in the ticket line

Endless Goodwill thursdays

Water bottle search and rescue, and search again

Let’s watch the cat roll on the floor in transparent ease

Thank you for sweeping the crumbs away
