Residency Anywhere
Dear reader,
In the dawn of the “post pandemic” world we see Plexiglas fall and jobs lapsing from necessary, to furloughed, to fired. Security is scarce and we struggle to make sense of it. Where I live, in the Pacific Northwest, our brief spring is giving way to undoubtedly another tortuous summer. People here are scurrying around in an attempt to do all of the summer activities they can before the sun becomes unbearable. These poems and art reflect that urgency. A desire to feel relief filtered through the things in our lives that prevent us from truly reaching a state of vacancy.
At first I toyed with titling the issue Vacate but especially for working writers we rarely escape and we rarely get a break. So I’m going to do the next best thing. We’re going to give ourselves a mini writing retreat. Wherever we can and for as long as we are allowed. A poem on our breaks, a photo taken on the ride home, a deep breath if we dare.
Kindly,
